Different bag styles are used to develop various skills, increasing the fighter’s versatility and improving his technique.

1. Heavy Bags
A heavy bag, which is designed for practicing power punches, is made of leather or canvas and is stuffed with sand. It is hung from the ceiling or a mounting device with a heavy chain. Boxing Depot states that a 170-pound fighter would benefit from a heavy bag that weighs 60 to 70 lbs.

2. Standing Bags
According to Boxing Depot, standing bags are tall structures designed for practicing kicks as well as punches. They are not mounted to the ceiling or wall but instead are anchored by a base that can be filled sand or water. They are portable in that they can be moved by rolling the bag on its round base.

3. Uppercut Bags
The uppercut bag is a smaller version of the heavy bag. It is mounted horizontally so the fighter can practice strikes that originate at waist level and are delivered under the chin.

4. Speed Bags
The speed bag is a small bag mounted on a short spring that immediately snaps back after it is struck. It is used to develop timing instead of power. Speed Bag Central cites the benefits of speed bag training as keener hand-eye coordination, improved rhythm and increased punching speed.

5. Double-End Bags
The double-end bag is nearly the size of a basketball. It is strung with tight coils–one going from the bag to the ceiling and the other going from the bag to the floor. As demonstrated by “Boxing: The Double-End Bag,” when the fighter punches the bag, it quickly snaps back, simulating the counterstrike of an opponent.

In these days where the emphasis is on the athletic body shape and the idolising of the super fit athlete, it is no wonder that everyone craves to have muscle rippling six pack stomachs. With modern day training equipment and a lot of discipline the aim of the six pack stomach is achievable for those who really desire it. The key word in any fitness training program ever designed is, “discipline”. Without discipline there is no progress and all the money spent on training equipment is lost. If you are in the process of purchasing one of these punching bags, take note of the following product features you should keep in mind to look out for. Features should have a Contoured Closed Cell (C3) Foam Technology that provides increased cushioning and force dispersion while maintaining bag integrity.

Specially blended filler that provides great flexibility, great resilient shock absorbency. A Poly canvas sleeve which is designed to increases durability and longer lasting life. Double End attachment for greater resistance to the kind of treatment meted out to it. Adjustable fitting chain to accommodate all sizes of users, tall, or small, male or female, young or old. Redesigned with durable and safe webbing system to give more resistance to wear and tear. These are just a few of the features you should look for before you spend hard earned money on some other type of product that just does not come up to standard.

To learn more very important features please read on below.

You won’t be hurting from a lack of selection when you’re looking for boxing gloves for sale. There is a dozen or more companies that produce punching bag gloves, and all of those companies have various models, sizes and variations that explodes the choices that you have. However, besides just blindly picking on brand recognition or price, how are you supposed to find a pair of boxing gloves for sale that is the perfect match for what you need?

It can be a tricky process, and the perfect pair of punching bag gloves for one person won’t be the perfect pair for another person. That’s why you have to think about your individual circumstances and what you’re looking for, which will enable you to narrow down your selection and make a great purchase. When you’re ready to pick up your training or upgrade your equipment, you can consider some of the following points to help make the decision easier.

Intended Usage: If you’re only going to be using your punching bag gloves on the heavy bag then you don’t need to buy a pair with laces. However, if you think you may be sparring, then you’ll need a lace up pair for maximum protection and stabilization.

Weight: Boxing gloves for sale come in a huge spectrum of weights, starting from 8 oz and ranging all the way up to 20 oz and even more. A heavier glove will be harder to work with, but will offer more padding for your hands while training. Additionally, you will be training your arms with a heavier load, so when it’s time to really step into the ring a normal pair of fight gloves will seem extremely light. For adults, a 16 oz pair usually provides the best of both worlds.

Padding: Not all punching bag gloves are made with the same levels of padding. Cleto Reyes boxing gloves for example distribute the weight differently, which offers a firmer punch but less protection for your hands. So while many professionals love to use them in the ring and while training, they may not be the best choice for casual training or sparring for fitness purposes.

Price: Price shouldn’t be your first concern, however it is important considering how many boxing gloves for sale exist today. For a pair of standard training gloves, you can expect to pay between $20 and $50. For a sturdier pair of sparring gloves, or a pair of top quality amateur or professional fight gloves, you can expect to pay from $40 to $100.

These are just a few of the factors you’ll need to consider when evaluating all of your options for punching bag gloves. Remember to think about how you’re going to use them, and some of he specific attributes you want them to have and you should be able to make an easy decision.

When purchasing a punching bag, it is important to be sure the swivel bracket is designed to hold the weight of the bag you have. Bags under125 pounds can utilize nearly any swivel mount, but a bag heavier than that need a heavy-duty swivel mount. Spend the extra money if necessary to ensure your bag does not go flying.

Step 1

Use the stud finder to determine where the center of one of your ceiling beams is located, in the vicinity of where you wish to hang the bag.

Step 2

Use the pencil to mark the center of the beam for your pilot hole.

Step 3

Use the drill to drill a pilot hole that is slightly smaller than the diameter of the eye bolt shaft. Ask someone at the hardware store for a recommendation if you need help determining the pilot hole drill-bit size.

Step 4

Screw the eye bolt into the beam, using a screwdriver handle or pliers to aid with the torque necessary to screw it in all the way up the shaft.

Step 5

Use the S-hook to hook the punching bag mount to the eye bolt.

Step 6

Use the duct tape to wrap both ends of the S-hook to prevent the S-hook from disengaging from either the eye bolt or the punching bag.

The moment someone sees a punching bag, whether it be on a picture or a movie or even in real life, let’s say a sporting goods store, they all think of boxing. Most even take it a step further and think of the famous Rocky Balboa and have the song Eye of the tiger playing in their head. If in a store almost every other person would punch it just for the hell of it. It is called a punching bag for a purpose right?

So how come everyone wants to punch it and at least goof around with one, yet still most of the people out there believe it is for professional use only. I myself have been running a business dealing with sporting goods (martial arts equipment) and have found that over 95% of my customers for punching bags were ordinary people that have nothing to do with martial arts. Almost 50% of them just want to “sweat it out” and most have a little place set up just for “her”.

I offer them advice on how to use it to really get the sweat going. I myself have been practicing martial arts for almost a decade and have done my share of sweating. But nothing came even close to a real 1:1 session with the bag. She never gets tired, she never gets hurt and she never complains to go easy on her (excuse my personalization of the bag and naming it “she”). These three facts alone make it possible to cram a highly intensive workout into 15 minutes or less that will really get your cardio going. This is does not include warm-ups.

You will have fun at it as well. If training by yourself you can also let a lot of steam go and pretend the bag is your boss or annoying neighbour that constantly steals your parking space. Satisfaction is guaranteed. You can use kicks, punches or best of all both.

I would suggest looking into the basic elements of punching (straight punch, hook punch and uppercut) along with proper techniques for low-middle-high kicks. The purpose for this is not to make you look like Mike Tyson or Bruce Lee but to prevent injuries that may occur and also to ad a list of workouts you can do when combining these elements together. You could get the basics on YouTube and similar sites.

The lists are endless but for starters here are some basic workouts for beginners:

- 5 min warm-up with stretching of all the joints
- 5 series of 3 minute intervals with 2 minutes rest in between

The 3 minute intervals should consist of no less than 2 and no more than 5 techniques (if skilled you could add more).

Here are my favourites:

1.) L, R, L (cross)
2.) L, R,L (cross), R (middle)
3.) R, L, R (cross), L (low)
4.) R, L, R (upper), L (cross)
5.) All kicks and punches in all forms

L = left, R= Right, if there is no ( ) it s a straight punch otherwise.

Train hard and stay safe.

Whaling on a punching bag not only gives you a great cardiovascular workout, it also tones and strengthens your muscles, relieves stress and builds self-defense skills.

Step 1
Measure the area where you’ll install the bag, compensating for the bag’s height and the space you’ll have to maneuver in during your workout.

Step 2
Drill a hole into a hanging beam, ceiling stud or the top of a door frame. If you prefer, hang the bag from a sturdy pull-up bar installed in the doorway.

Step 3
Screw an eyebolt (available at hardware stores) into the hole. Use eyebolts with longer shafts and screw them in using the end of a screwdriver as a lever.

Step 4
Attach each of the chains atop the punching bag to an “S”-shaped hook. Most bags come with four chains or swivels.

Step 5
Wrap each “S” hook with duct tape to secure each of the punching bag’s chains.

Step 6
Link the bottom end of another “S” hook onto the hanging hook of the punching bag. Secure this connection with duct tape.

Step 7
Attach the top end of the same “S” hook onto the eyebolt in the drilled hole.
